School Council Minutes - February 2025

Date: Monday, February 3, 2025

Location: Library, Castlemore Public School

1. Attendees 

  • Chairperson: Wayne Spencer (Vice Principal) Leeanne Hoover-Joy (Principal)
  • Executives Present: Jessy Wong, Sharon Shih
  • Executives Absent: Alice Su, Supriyo Majumdar
  • Others (in-person): Kelly Lo, Anita Huang, Marilyn Yang 

 

2. Principal's Report 

  • Key Updates: Four robotics kits arrived. Waiting for mats.
    • Actions: Ms. Hoover-Joy to do a call-out for parents who are interested in helping plan for the annual Fun Fair (request phone numbers and emails)
    • Ms. Hoover-Joy to provide execs with Fun Fair rules/guidelines and list of approved vendors to use.
    • Ms. Hoover-Joy to encourage teachers to plan field trips.
    • Ms. Hoover-Joy to ask teachers to put together wish list of items such as board games, indoor activities, etc. so council can request donations by February 15 

 

3. Treasurer's Report 

  • Budget Overview: Exact amount TBD once school lunch expenses are paid to vendors.
  • Actions: N/A 

 

4. Other Action Items 

Action items in blue below are carried over from the last meeting. New action items in black. 

  • Jessy to continue conversations with Hong Fook Mental Health Association and book workshops for the school. March 5th is the preferred date.
  • Kelly can help gather teacher volunteers for the Fun Fair once plans are firm. 

 

5. New Business & Ideas 

  • Can we purchase a 3D printer for the school’s Makerspace in the library? Great for both students and community engagement.
  • Purchase green screen? 

 

6. Ongoing Business 

  • Fun Fair planning. Gather parent planner volunteers and meet virtually (tentatively) on Monday, February 24 at 8:30pm.
  • Winter engagement idea:
    • Mental health & technology workshop with Hong Fook Mental Health Association.
      • Speakers to present in English and Mandarin or Cantonese to parents of Castlemore students
      • School to provide entertainment for kids (movie night with snacks)
      • Book fair potentially to run on same evening (prior to speaker session) to encourage families to attend and participate 

 

7. Accomplishments 

  •  Ms. Hoover-Joy has approved Hong Fook Mental Health Association to provide workshops in March.
  • School council has set approvals for the kindergarten outdoor play wishlist in order to purchase by the February 15 “no tax” deadline.
