Last week, Castlemore staff and students recognized Truth and Reconciliation Week. The week began with our Every Child Matters flag raising ceremony on Monday and culminated with students and staff participating in Orange Shirt Day this past Monday.
Castlemore did a great job taking part in a number of safety protocols as part of Safety Week in the YRDSB. Students were attentive and well-behaved as they completed drills designed to keep them safe in the event of an emergency. Well done students!
Thanks to the families who attended Castlemore’s 1st School Council for this school year. During the meeting, our School Council Executive was confirmed. Congratulations to Supriyo Majumdar (Chair) and Amanda Zamperin (Secretary). The Council Executive is still in need of a Treasurer. If anyone is interested in filling this important role, please contact Leeanne Hoover-Joy or Wayne Spencer at 905-887-1543. No experience is required and present council members are happy to provide support if needed.

Islamic Heritage Month
During the month of October, Ontario celebrates and affirms the significant contributions that Muslims continue to make as part of the vibrant social, economic, political and cultural fabric of this province. We take time to reflect on and highlight the rich histories and diversity of Muslim communities in all aspects of society here in Canada and around the world. While reflecting on Islamic history and the diversity of Islamic heritages, we must also disrupt harmful biases and dehumanizing narratives about Muslim people. Challenging and combating Islamophobia is necessary to create safer and more inclusive learning environments for all.

Parking on Ridgecrest and Castlemore
Please be advised that parking on the streets that border Castlemore Public School (Ridgecrest Road to the East, Castlemore Avenue to the South) is prohibited at certain times of the day. Police have recently begun issuing tickets to cars that have been parking illegally on these streets. We have been informed that cameras are being used to identify parked cars and tickets are being mailed to homes. The city bylaw being enforced is not connected to Castlemore Public School. As always, families are encouraged to walk, bike, or roll to school. If parking is essential, it is recommended to park on side streets nearby.
